The Funding status
On the funding we have good news. We have reached the target and can now start ordering. However, being diligent we plan to order the equipment carefully and only after tested components work together as they are designed for.
The airframe design as in the website of course was a first sketch. Now we are looking in the strenght and stuctural integrety of the craft. A first sketch in a computer aided design has been made by the new team member and we plan to further it to be foldable and allowing 3 G stress on the structure. We also had a look at a paraglider seat to be used in the man drone.
Transmission belt design
The calculations on the belt system have been concluded and discussed with our Norwegian Advisor on the team. We are OK. Next we designed the belt system and motor and prop holders and think we have a light but sturdy arrangement. The team member in metal working will have to work on it, and sees no obstacles.
Safety design approach
The progress on safety was spurred by the contact with the rescue parachute company:
Galaxysky (http://www.galaxysky.cz/) They produce parachutes for small aircraft, gliders, and ultralights. The issue is that the parachutes need airspeed to open up. So that airspeed is there in forward speed or falling. This makes that such parachutes have a rescue height of ca 80 to 100 m (for planes). For our mandrone this is insufficient. So to cover the range between 3 and 80 meters we need to develop something different: we came up with 2 solutions:
1) lateral rockets pulling the parachute open horizontally
2) combining a airbag with the parachute: the latter you can see on the left.
We think that there is more and would like to develop such system with the company. It will be of high value to all drones and our mandrone project.
We plan to subscribe to the Drone for Good Award that UAE has set out. We hope we can also discuss the category man drone. So let's see and wait on our proposal!

Last week we were working on the power issues for the Humming Man Craft and also on the different safety options.
Interesting is the Battery 500 project where the Lithium Air battery is aimed at. Li air is associated with a lot of hurdles, but if these can be overcome using modern material science (nano particles, graphene, etc.) it might work.
Also interesting in this regard is the Alum-air battery. Although not rechargeable currently, it holds a good promise. It can do 1300 Wh/kg as compared with current Li technology 110 Wh/kg. So this will allow good range for the Craft ultimately.
On safety area there is a lot of work to be done. Funny that NASA for the one of its space crafts developed special air bags, and recently started to use the idea for helicopters. Think this shows that there is a huge area of innovations that we will see in the air bags development for many applications: skying, motorbikes, cars outside, drones, etc.. see this link.
So there is indeed a lot of scope for such device to be used for the humming man craft. Interesting too is a type of helium emergency lifter. It would need a ca 6.6 m diameter balloon to be conceived as a huge air bag of 6.6 meter diameter. Can it be done? Again let's discuss it!
